7 Habits

Yesterday I submitted an assignment early. It wasn’t because I was going away on holiday, or that I had copied someone else’s and just wanted to be rid of it. But because I had finished it, it was right, and I was completely satisfied with it and had nothing more to add to it.

Admittedly it was a programming assignment, and these usually do have a finite end-point. Rather than an essay that can always be tweaked and re-worded. But the crux of the issue here is that I finished an assignment early. I have been at university for more than 5 years now, and have usually managed my time so that things get finished when they need to be finished, and not before.

I see this is somewhat realistic scheduling. They wouldn’t have given us so much time unless they expected us to use it all. And don’t we all have more important things to do anyway? I suppose that is somewhat simplistic, but nonetheless it was nice to have finished a project by myself, and a few days early for once. Maybe I should try this whole ‘being organised’ thing more often.

It’s halfway through answering the age old question “What’s your advice for first years?” that I stop and think, wasn’t it fun running from one distraction to another, completing assignments in the bare minimum time, on the bare minimum sleep… It was for me, and it’s an experience you shouldn’t withhold from younger students.
Stuff being organized, thats why coffee was invented.

So Will, when are we off to the movies?

See, this is just a sign that you are ready to leave uni…

  3. Will Says:

If by ‘leave uni’ you mean ‘go to another uni to do a PhD’ then, yeah, I suppose.

  4. Sach Says:

But won’t your next uni experience be all the more fun now that you can properly manage your time? That’s why you go the second round… to apply the things you learned at the VERY END the first time.

Just think of all the fun stuff you can do with the rest of your time…

Shuddup. You had yours finished early too didn’t you Pete? And you’ve already started the next one which isn’t due for ages!

And yes, my next uni experience should be much more fun, maybe I’ll be the first PhD student to get my thesis in on time!

no really, i think Gem of geM or GEM needs strepsils or perhaps *strepsils* to soothe that nasty habit of indicating some bodily noise at every post/msg between here n facebook…

there is nothing wrong with doing 5 assignments in a day, even if that day lasts 21hrs before you eventually take a taxi home because u missed the last train by more than a hour… (and cause someone also missed their trams)

6 out of 7 done, aiming for 6.5 by sunday arvo
