Couch Fairy

I’ve never really been one for cleaning. There are those people that are somewhat regimented in their approach to cleanliness, with regular cleaning schedules, and a somewhat worrying affinity for tidiness. I’m not one of these, as many of you will know, but I think it’s about time I changed my tune.

Whilst waiting for lunch to cook this afternoon, I wandered around and decided to do some absent-minded cleaning and tidying. One of the first places I went was the couch, as it’s a place where I spend a large amount of time anyway, so it may as well be in a somewhat tidy state. As usual with me and cleaning, I started off easy, just brushing down the arms, and making sure there wasn’t any offensive detritus around.

During this admittedly half-arsed effort, one of my housemates came to see how I was doing. “Damn,” I said to myself “Now I need to look like I’m actually cleaning!”. So, in an attempt to look busy, I took the cushions off the couch and proceeded to look like I was making sure there was nothing too gross there. Then lo and behold, there was a shiny $2 coin! I quickly pocketed it (as any good student would) and continued my charade of looking like I was cleaning, with the housemate none the wiser.

So I think it’s about time I changed my outlook on cleaning. Maybe that $2 coin was a sign to tell me that I should curb my untidy ways, throw off the shackles of the messy student life, and start to become a constructive and responsible member of society. Or it was just a lucky break. I like that option better.

totally off topic…why do u have ‘aldi stores’ website linked to urs?

  3. macguyver Says:

    Dear Lisa,

Will is a poor uni student, who whilst working as a sound tech likes to make a little on the side… if you know what i mean.

To achieve this, advertising space on his site is sold to the highest bidder (google adsense) and ‘targeted’ ads are displayed linking to keywords in his posts. Since one of the most famous posts on willmidgley.com relates to handbagdogs and aldi, aldi supermarkets is a legitimate advertising client for Will.

Will also tends to link to whatever he is paying out at the moment in question.

I believe that one of the above will account for your inquiry.

    regards,

    mac

Ah, mac, so eloquently put. It is all true, but I have removed the advertising of late as the ad server was down. And I have removed the link to Aldi, in its stead lies a link to DavidSobey.com.

    Dear Mac,

That was most eloquent…the reason I asked was coz my brother works as a training manager for aldi….and the other day on the radio it was quite eloquently mentioned by one of the RJs that aldi isn’t into australian produce and besides that who really shops at aldi!…I do. and now the RJs have been proven wrong…there are people out there who know about aldi!

    lol…anyways, lol…ah nevermind!

I think you’re onto something here Will. Imagine how much money you can “find” if you decide to “clean” your housemates’ rooms. I’m sure they’ve “dropped” cash stashed all over the place.

“Oh no this $50 isn’t yours. I found it tucked away in that wallet I was cleaning…”

  7. Will Says:

Lewis, I don’t say this very often, but you’re a genius. I think this cleaning scam, I mean, “idea” might just work. This could be the start of a cleaner, richer Will!

  8. Sach Says:

Everyone has their price… apparently cleaning the couch is Will’s! As a neat freak, I’m glad to hear you aim so low.

Will Will Will… you are a nut.

In regards to cleaning , just thought i’d mention.. i was cleaning my room the other day (it’s my job to clean the house, so by the time i get to my room, i just get to tired to lift a finger..) and there i spied a mouse. =( So i guess finding $2.00 is much better than cleaning your room to find mouse poo. =(

And no, i’m not entirely a grub! My room isn’t that messy or anything..it just has mice!! :’( i might have to take you up on that offer at staying at your place for a while…

  10. Will Says:

MeEp!! You have a mouse living in your room? That must make for interesting times! It sounds like you should start cleaning at your room, and then clean the rest of your house, your room must be messy if there’s enough places for a mouse to hide! :-)
